Lukas Radovich has spoken publicly about his sexuality for the first time.

The former Home and Away star, 28, is openly gay and in a long-term relationship with a man, but never discussed it while starring on the Channel Seven soap.

The actor told The Daily Telegraph News Today Telegraph on Thursday he never tried to hide his sexuality from the public, but was simply 'coming to terms' with it.

'I definitely think when I was in my young twenties, I was still discovering myself and that now I feel comfortable enough to be able to talk about it,' he said.

'The last five years have been quite a big journey for me; one, because of the show, but also too coming into my own sense of self, just being comfortable I guess.'

Lukas came out to his friends and family before he began his role as Ryder Jackson on Home and Away in 2017.  

'I am quite a shy person by nature, quite introverted, so it takes a while for me to warm up to talking about things. And then after that it just wasn't an issue,' he added.

Lukas, who left Summer Bay in 2022 after five years, is dating professional men's netballer Liam Forcadilla.

The couple, who met on dating app Tinder, have been dating for more than three years, and moved in together after one year.

'[Liam] is actually the first person I introduced my parents; that was my way of telling them,' Lukas said.

The soap star said goodbye to Home and Away in May last year in a heartfelt Instagram post before his final episode.

'What an incredible ride. I can't really express how the last five years has felt or impacted my life so I'll keep it short,' Lukas wrote.

'I'll miss the job, but most importantly I'll miss the people.

'A special mention to @tony_gardiner for directing my final block with empathy. And thanks to the FANS OF THE SHOW who've made the experience unforgettable.'

In January 2022, Lukas revealed his most challenging scene to film was the previous year's finale, which saw Ryder buried alive in a coffin during a prank gone wrong.

He and his friend Theo, played by actor Matt Evan, staged a prank to raise funds to repay a debt owed to Ryder's mother, Roo Stewart, played by Georgie Parker. 

However, it all went horribly wrong when Theo was injured and Ryder became trapped underground.

'When I saw that the call sheet just had my name on it for the entire day, I knew it was going to be big,' he told 7Entertainment.

'It was challenging to learn, and to be covered in dirt for such a long time. But it was also the most rewarding.'

A month after the announcement of his exit, Lukas' on-and-off-screen pal Courtney Miller, who played Bella Nixon, also departed the show after four years.
